I love a good beer and when I travel I enjoy finding locally brewed beer, or just a beer with a eye-catching name or label. A few I’ve delved into recently include:
King’s Table Real Ale purchased at the Tower of London gift shop.
Polygamy Porter, purchased in Massachusetts, but brewed in Park City Utah. I love a good a British style porter, so this was my favourite of these three.
And last night, purchased in Halifax, NS, and brewed in Shawinigan QC, the Shawinigan Handshake from Le Trou du Diable.
For those who don’t know, a Shawinigan handshake refers to former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien’s handling of a protester in 1996 in Hull Quebec.
Chrétien has always had a good sense of humour about the incident. and has played up to the media many times since then. In fact, he has posed with this particular beer.
The best sentiments about beer have been expressed by country singer Tom T. Hall.
