Theological Telephone

Most of us are familiar with the childhood game known as secret, telephone, or gossip. Someone thinks of a short phrase and whispers it to the person next to them, who then whispers it to the next, and so on down the line. At the end, the person states out loud what they heard and it is compared with the original. Hilarity ensues.

This is how modern theologians interpret ancient texts.
