At least that’s the word from Majlis al-Ifta’ al-A’ala, is Saudi Arabia’s highest religious council. According to the council, within a few years, there would be no more virgins.
It warned that allowing women to drive would “provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce”.
Within 10 years of the ban being lifted, it claimed, there would be “no more virgins” in the Islamic kingdom.
It pointed out that “moral decline” could already be seen in those other Muslim countries in which women are allowed to drive.
In the report Prof Subhi described sitting in a coffee shop in an unnamed Arab state where “all the women were looking at me”.
“One made a gesture that made it clear that she was available,” he said. “This is what happens when women are allowed to drive.”
The rules against women drivers in Saudi Arabia came to international attention this fall when a Saudi was sentenced to flogging for daring to drive.
This goes along with a report that some Saudi’s believe that women should cover their eyes.
Women with attractive eyes may be forced to cover them up under Saudi Arabia’s latest repressive measure, it was reported yesterday.
The ultra-conservative Islamic state has said it has the right to stop women revealing ‘tempting’ eyes in public.
A spokesperson for Saudi Arabia’s Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, Sheikh Motlab al Nabet, said a proposal to enshrine the measure in law has been tabled.
Covering their eyes would certainly take care of the driving problem.
Back to the dark ages they go.
